What to Wear to a Holiday Office Party?

If your company has a theme such as ugly Christmas sweaters, or holiday costumes, you are lucky, your outfit is already picked out for you. However, the majority of us have a difficult time navigating what to wear for your work  holiday party. It can be challenging to figure out what's appropriate, what's too formal, and what's not formal enough. We have all been there. That is why we have put together a guide of trendy outfit ideas that are work party appropriate, for multiple occasions from casual-to-formal. Not to mention, there’s a good chance that the party will take place after your regular 9-5 work schedule. So instead of bringing an extra set of clothes or being uncomfortable throughout the day, try wearing an outfit that is versatile for both work and the occasion!

Leather Pants:

This fall and winter season we are loving leather pants. They're a great alternative to jeans, and almost as comfy as leggings. Paired with a sweater or a blazer and you the perfect day-night outfit.

Velvet Pantsuits:

Pantsuits are nothing new in workwear fashion. There’s a seriousness to a pantsuit, but there's a playful effect when you add velvet and color, making it an easy outfit to wear to both work and after work occasions. Not to mention velvet is a warmer fabric so it’s perfect for the winter season! Velvet is definitely having a moment this season, during NewYork Fashion Week we saw velvet lined coats, and velvet bags!

Animal Print:

Animal print is back and better than ever. Designers such as Michael Kors, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Kate Spade and Rebecca Taylor debuted bold animal print looks at New York FashionWeek last month. Animal print is so versatile, and can make the perfect outfit for going out, or for a Holiday or New Year’s party! In the bottom right photo you can see how Emma styles leopard print, with a pair of pants from Dress!

Silk and Satin:

Need Something More Formal? Silk and Satin are in this season! We saw an abundance of silk and satin dresses make a comeback on the street during  at New York Fashion Week. Silk and Satin are fabrics typically associated with more formal wear, but layered appropriately with a turtleneck or blazer, they can makeup the ideal formal outfit for an office party! Choose autumnal colors like amber, or magenta, and you're ready to take on fall!

Need some Party Inspiration?

  1. Throwing An Ugly Christmas Sweater Party is So Last Year. Instead, Throw A Cute Winter Sweater Exchange Party!

I’m sure we have all participated in an ugly sweater Christmas party at one point or another. Sorting through racks of dated and tacky sweaters at our local thrift store, only to realize we probably won’t ever wear that light up Christmas tree sweater EVER again. Instead, try throwing a cute sweater party! It works like this: Each participant comes to the party with a new with tags sweater to trade and swap. You could even do this Secret Santa style, that way you'll know what size sweater to buy for your special someone!  With this concept you will leave the party with a new item to add to your winter wardrobe that you'll actually wear again, because the items will be on trend and not dated!

Not sure what’s on trend?

At Dress, we always pay close attention to what items are on trend for the current season, that way we can make sure our store is stocked with items you'll love! We’ve noticed two distinct sweater trends occurring from Fall 2019 Fashion Week: Puffy Sleeves and Neon colors dominated the runway at New York Fashion Week this Fall and Winter as you can see in the photos below.

At both or Six Forks, and Wade Avenue location, we have a huge selection of cozy sweaters that are on trend for this winter season, and perfect to bring to a fun party like this!

  1. Brunch Party:

We all love going out for good brunch with all the fixings, plus lots of coffee and maybe a mimosa or two? This Holiday season, why not host a Brunch where you can come dressed up or down, gossip, and eat. Why not make it potluck style and ask guests to bring a dish. That way you won’t need to spend hours cooking or cleaning after! To keep it on theme with the holidays, you could throw in a white elephant gift exchange!

  1. Paint and Sip Party:

Paint and Sip parties have gained so much popularity in recent years. A lot of art studios offer beginner painting classes for groups, with the added bonus of wine. While these classes are great if you're working with a big budget, it’s often more affordable and fun to host one! That way by hosting one you can even include kids. No babysitter needed for this party, while the adults drink wine, a table could be set up for the kids to paint and drink hot chocolate, how fun! There are endless possibilities for a party like this, you could ask guests to dress up according to a winter color scheme such as red or green, or you could even make it formal.

  1. Cookie Decorating Party:

This idea is definitely one for the kiddos! What better way to celebrate the holidays than throwing a cookie decorating party. To throw a cookie decorating party all you need to do is ask guests to bring ingredients to make a huge batch of sugar cookies! At the party kids will get to shape the cookies with cookie cutters, bake them, and then decorate them with frosting. Not only will guests leave with delicious party souvenirs, but you could even have a prize for categories such as most creative cookie!
